All the way around

I've completed my first year in my house and now I can finally relax a little. I've just finished and hung the final curtain. 

I love this lace pattern and the nod to Scotland it gives to my home but I was surprised at how fast it worked up after I got serious about getting it finished. 

Now for the tour of curtains:

Just what I envisioned. Ahhhh....good times. 

Next step

I keep thinking if I just finish this section I'll be done but then there seems to always be another step to take. 

I got the border done then I got everything laid out. The first thing I tried to connect the pieces looked horrible so out it came. So far I'm happy with plan B so when I get this section finished, I'll be done. 

Surely I'll be done one of these days.  Right?

Crazy person working

I have been working like a crazy person trying to get this curtain done. I'm sooooo close but am exhausted and I have a long day tomorrow. 

I'm the person who hates to put a book down when I'm in the last few chapters so this is making me even crazier. But I'm also a lot closer. 

I only have 2 more repeats to finish and then the straight solid tape across the top but I HAVE to go to bed. 

Did I mention how close I am?

Here it is with the squares. I'm so excited I can't stand it. Maybe just one more minute...

Step Two

I've gone back and forth on how I might fill in the blanks to form the bobbin lace medallions into the little curtain for the transom. 

I thought about doing needle lace or Irish crochet but then I found this border pattern. 

There will still need to be a filler on top and bottom. Crochet? Bobbin lace?  Tatting?  Decisions, decisions. 

New project or old?

I've been in my new house for almost exactly a year now. When I first moved in I started making curtains for my living room windows. They all have plantation shutters so all I needed were valances. I crocheted a couple and knit a couple (one still in progress) and I have the transom on the door yet to do. 

I've had some different ideas (including a brief thought of getting a new door) but here's where I think we're going. 

I found 4 motifs in the Claire Burkhard book, 50 New Bobbin Lace Patterns that are attached by a joining into a patchwork project but I'll need to adapt it to fit the piece to the window. 

There are 4 different designs and they work up super quick. Here's my first block that only took about 4 hours or so. 

I may play with a crocheted border depending on how tired I get making blocks!!

There are 3 other designs that should all work up equally quickly.
